Your aim when cleaning up a heading with too much grade (a big hole) is to try to use the last of the dirt at the face to fill the hole in. Make sure when you pull the dirt back from the face it is dragged back to the start of the road. Try to do this a couple of times then always re-check the grade and location of the lifters before leaving.
