Mining Resumes: Before and After
You’ve got six seconds. That’s all the time you have to show a hiring manager you understand how a mine operates and how you could fit into it.
The people making hiring decisions are incredibly time-poor. If your resume looks like it’ll take longer than five minutes to read, chances are… it won’t get read at all. That’s why a flowing, easy-to-read resume is critical.
If you have a trade, skill, or experience that could transfer into mining, put it front and centre on page one. Don’t bury the good stuff on page three—because page three often doesn’t see the light of day.
Video Walkthroughs & Real Examples
Below are a couple of videos from our sponsored YouTube channel Australian Mining for New Starter. These show how to update your resume after completing the Introduction to Underground Mining- DIY training package. If you go with the Workready or 3-Step Plan package option, we’ll rebuild your resume for you.
All names and identifying details in the examples have been changed—but the structure and strategy remain.

Mastering the Unwritten Resume Rules for Mining Jobs
In this video, we unpack some of the unspoken rules that could make—or break—your mining production job application. We’ll cover the most common mistakes candidates make on their resumes, and more importantly, how to fix them.
Toward the end, I’ll also share what to look out for if you’re paying someone to write your resume. Spending $400–$500 on a resume won’t do much good if it doesn’t catch the foreman’s or project manager’s attention at first glance.
As always—understanding how the system works gives you the edge to make it work for you.
Entry-Level Mining Resumes: What You Need to Know
In this video, the focus is on guiding those new to the mining industry through the essentials of crafting an effective resume.
When it comes to getting hired, first impressions are everything. Employers typically spend just six seconds scanning a resume—so anything that sells a candidate for the role needs to be right there on the front page.
The video also highlights the importance of knowing which tickets are valuable in the eyes of employers and which ones are often overlooked. And yes, resume length still counts—if it’s too long or hard to follow, it’s likely to be skipped.
If you have a trade or skill set that could transition into the mining industry, make it known.
Without mining experience, it’s crucial to highlight your strengths up front. Ensure all key information appears on the first page, and keep your resume to a maximum of 2-3 pages to maintain impact and readability.
Keep in mind—the main reason you’re being interviewed is because you’re expected to answer mining-related questions covered in the Introduction to Underground Mining training.
That’s what sets you apart and shows you’re ready to step into the role.
