Mining jobs that don’t need a trade or degree

I don’t know why this information isn’t more widely available, there are lots of big money mining jobs that don’t need a trade or degree. These jobs are both on the mine and in the mill. Often only requiring a manual car license, police clearance, medical and some basic mining knowledge to get the job. If you type “underground”, “offsider” and “process operator” into seek you will see all these jobs come up.

These are jobs that start on $100k a year for a 2 & 1 roster. Going underground you can work your way up to the Jumbo (takes 5-10years) and make $1500 a day. You can start off as a Nipper, Truck Operator, Agi Operator or Offsider on $400 a day. Working your way up through the crew, you can end up working overseas. As a Shift Boss, Foreman or Jumbo operator, earning between $20K and $35K a month. When you start looking through the underground jobs you will see all the expat jobs come up.

So effective is our mixture of automation and mechanisation in Hardrock underground mining. That just about everyone in the world is trying to run their own version, often with limited success. This is where the demand for the Australian miner’s and mining companies, overseas comes from. Like they say, there’s nothing like the real thing. Getting people directly form the system you are trying to copy is a choice lots of mine owners are making around the world.  For most owners, it doesn’t get any better than having a group of Australians run their mine.
