What is a WA Ticketed Underground Shift Supervisor?
All mines in Western Australia operate under the WA Mining Act, the only dedicated mining legislation in Australia. In contrast, all other states follow their individual Workplace Health and Safety guidelines. Mining companies with operations across multiple states must adhere to the strictest legislation, which is the Western Australian Mining Act.
A Western Australian Ticketed Underground Shift Supervisor is officially recognised by the WA Mines Department as competent to lead an underground hardrock mining crew anywhere in Australia. This qualification is highly respected internationally.
To apply for a Shift Supervisor ticket, candidates must have at least five years of underground mining experience and pass a rigorous written and practical exam with exceptional results. The W.A Shift Boss qualification requires:
- A minimum of five years’ documented experience
- An intensive three-hour exam with a high failure rate—over 60% of applicants fail on their first attempt
All our courses have been developed and written by experienced, qualified Shift Supervisors, ensuring high-quality industry training that meets mining standards and expectations.
